Well folks. It’s been a long time. I’ve done a good job of sheltering myself from the media and all of the horrible news that we are force fed every day. I’ve been trying not to let myself get too upset or disappointed these days. It tends to bring you down. Especially when you are as sensitive as we are to things like pollution, animal abuse and the general abuse of Mother Earth, our beautiful and slowly dying home.

genetically modified foods, corporate profit motiveWe all watch commercials. Every single one of them depicts a world that is bountiful, clean, natural, animal and nature friendly – the list goes on. Food commercials will most often feature shots of garden fresh veggies or wholesome, pure ingredients – as if that is all that goes into the product. Cleaning product commercials feature energetic scrubbing bubbles and other fun animated characters. But did you know these products are responsible for mutations in marine creatures? How about those happy cow commercials? I can guarantee there aren’t many happy cows in existence unless they a) reside on a small farm where they are treated with respect or b) have been rescued and are living at a sanctuary – with their only purpose being to LIVE.

Overfishing the seas Over the last year or so I’ve stuck to a mostly meat-free diet. I learned a lot about factory farming and the inhumane conditions in which our delectable, and most often disrespected, farm friends are kept in. I made a conscious decision not to be a part of the demand or contribute to the suffering of these animals.

Genetically Modified foodsBy far, this article is the most comprehensive I have read in regards to the subject of genetically modified food. I find it fascinating that as a society we will donate millions of dollars to cancer research in hopes of finding a ‘cure’ yet it seems it would be possible to PREVENT cases of cancer by not ingesting these genetically modified substances. Essentially, big corporations are playing Russian roulette with your health to line their wallets. Why aren’t more people totally pissed off? The government has allowed these possible cancer causing agents to make their way into everything your child eats and even onto your dinner table, without your knowledge. GM ingredients are not required to be labeled as such. Yes, the deficit and economy are definitely bad but the slow poisoning of an entire nation, all in the name of profit, is worse.
